Biography: A British archeologist at the University of Liverpool and director of the British School of Archeology in Jerusalem, he served in the Mandatory government as Director of the Department of Antiquities. His most famous excavations were in Egypt, Nubia, Asia Minor and northern Syria. He supported the Arab cause against the Zionists.
