Name: David, King
Died: circa 1000 B.C.E.
Biography: Of the 42 kings and queens who ruled over Judah and Israel, David is the most important. He was Israel's second king and an accomplished poet who wrote most of the Psalms. He established the city of Jerusalem and is traditionally thought of as the progenitor of the Messiah. His career as a king was far more successful than that as a parent.
